Palazzo del Podestà Città di Castello - Umbria - Italy

Angelo da Orvieto designed this important public building in the fourteenth century after he had worked on the Town Hall. It was commissioned by Tarlati di Pietramala. There are several differente architectural styles and rows of polished stone have been added.
In the lunettes above the workshops door the coats of arms of the “Podestà” who governed the town can jus be seen. There is a wide arch that marks the principal entrance to the palace and leads to the piazza on the other side. There is a small window over each door and above them a series of beautiful double lancet windows inside a semicircular arch.
The arcade that opens onto Piazza Fanti was added in 1620 and the façade in Piazza Matteotti was re-structured by Nicala Barbioni in 1687
